Voyage overview

What this voyage is

Sleek and stylish, Le Boréal, Le Soléal, L’Austral and Le Lyrial are wonderful small ships that blend luxury and intimacy with a discreet elegance and tasteful décor.

These chic sisters are amongst the most stylish ships at sea,
with muted natural tones, minimalist interiors and playful splashes
of colour. The accommodation is flexible, with the option to
combine staterooms and create expansive suites, while the
restaurants deliver the sort of outstanding gastronomic experience
that you would expect from a French flag cruise line.

Itinerary

Valparaíso

Characterful, colourful and a little chaotic, the port city of Valparaíso enjoys a somewhat awkward setting, scattered across 45 vertiginous hills. Thanks to this difficult topography the city streets are punctuated by steep staircases and funicular elevators, and energetic explorers will be rewarded with wonderful views of the pastel hued buildings that hug the slopes. Valparaíso's most famous former resident was the great Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, and you can visit one of his former residences, La Sebastiana, which now houses a small museum.

Memory Tip: Our tip Amble through the city, taking the really cheap cable cars when you can to help you up and down the hills!

Quemchi (Chiloé Island)

Rugged and unspoilt Chiloé, situated at the southern end of Chile’s Lake District, is a unique and culturally distinct island that stands apart from the rest of the country. The little village of Quemchi is home to pretty wooden houses and a museum dedicated to the Chilean novelist Francisco Coloane, who was born nearby.

Caleta Tortel

The little fishing village of Caleta Tortel hugs the base of a mountain, perched above turquoise waters fed by glaciers. There are no cars or horses in Caleta Tortel - instead, the piers and houses are connected together by a remarkable network of wooden boardwalks.

El Brujo Glacier

The remote El Brujo Glacier is situated at the end of Asia Fjord, a branch of the Peel Fjord in Chile’s spectacular Bernardo O’Higgins National Park. As you cruise along the channel you’ll see waterfalls cascading down from the snowy mountains, while the water's surface is scattered with chunks of ice.

Alberto de Agostini National Park

Chile’s third largest national park is named after an Italian priest and mountaineer who mapped this remote region in the 1930s, and it was declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 2005. Look out for fauna including elephant seals, Andean foxes, Chilean dolphins and humpback whales.

Cape Horn

Surrounded by notoriously treacherous waters and battered by gale force winds known as the Furious Fifties, Cape Horn is the dramatic southernmost headland of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. This is the point where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet, watched over by a lonely lighthouse.

Puerto Williams

Puerto Williams has the feel of a true frontier town, situated on windswept Navarino Island facing out across the Beagle Channel. The surrounding mountains offer a spectacular backdrop for hiking and kayaking, while to the south lies the infamous Drake Passage and, beyond that, the frozen continent of Antarctica.

Ushuaia

Perched on the ragged southern edge of Argentina, where the snow-capped Andes fall away into the churning sea, Ushuaia has a frontier town feel to it, and serves as the base for expeditions into the icy waters of Antarctica.

Memory Tip: Don't miss What can we say? You can’t miss anything in the town, it’s so small!
