Voyage overview

What this voyage is

This intimate and popular little ship was the first crossover ship in the fleet, reborn as a stylish expedition ship following an extensive refurbishment in 2017.

The lovely Silver Cloud is now part of Silversea’s Expeditions
fleet, with a reduced capacity, an ice-strengthened hull and 18
zodiacs making this one of the most luxurious expedition ships at
sea.

Day By Day

Itinerary

1
2 May 2027
Apra

The deep water port of Apra is situated on the west coast of Guam, the largest and most densely populated of the Mariana Islands. Guam is a US overseas territory, so it can feel quite Americanised compared to other Pacific islands, but the scenery is stunning and the intriguing indigenous Chamorro culture has not yet been fully subsumed.

3 May 2027
Saipan

Saipan is a popular destination for Asian tourists, though it’s actually a US commonwealth. The island has a number of interesting Second World War sites, including the grim Banzai Cliff, where hundreds of Japanese jumped to their death rather than surrender.

Shimizu

Shimizu is one of the most spectacular ports in Japan, a sweeping bay in the shadow of the iconic Mount Fuji. You can spend some time admiring the views and wandering through peaceful pine groves, or visit the unique Shimizu Sushi Museum at the S-Pulse Dream Plaza shopping mall.

Takamatsu

The laid back port city of Takamatsu sits on the north coast of Shikoku, the smallest of Japan’s major islands, and is home to the beautifully designed Ritsurin Koen, one of Japan’s most famous historical gardens.

Kochi

The small, laid back city of Kochi is situated on the south coast of Shikoku island, an important place of pilgrimage for Japanese Buddhists. Three of the 88 temples on the pilgrimage route are in Kochi, and the city is also known for its elegant 17th century hilltop castle.

Miyajima

Miyajima island, officially known as Itsukushima, is famous for its incredibly photogenic torii (shrine gates) which seem to float above the water. Renovation work beginning in June 2019 means that the gates will be obscured by scaffolding for a couple of years, but the shrine itself will remain open.

Yakushima

The island of Yakushima is an unspoilt natural paradise, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its primeval temperate rainforest. The mountainous interior is a magical landscape of waterfalls, ancient cedar trees and winding trails, and provided the inspiration for Studio Ghibli’s acclaimed anime ‘Princess Mononoke’.

Kobe

Small in size and cosmopolitan in its outlook, Kobe is a thoroughly pleasant city with a long and distinguished history as one of Japan’s main trading ports. Kobe’s past as a commercial hub is reflected in its architecture, with a number of unusually European-looking houses, as well as a charming, if slightly touristy, Chinatown.

Memory Tip: Our tip Kobe’s nearby Rokko mountains mean it is easy to get up high for great views, with lots of cable cars and ropeways to choose from.
