Berlin

Buzzing, vibrant, exciting, varied, profound - there are endless words to describe Berlin. Its history is extraordinary, and everywhere you go there is something amazing to see, and some fascinating story to be told. Culturally outstanding, the city has museums and galleries galore, not to mention palaces, memorials, outstanding architecture and of course, the remains of the Wall. Beautiful green spaces and waterways intersperse the buildings, and whether your interest is the ancient, recent or the contemporary, there will most certainly be something for you. An exciting nightlife and excellent choice of restaurants complete the picture.

Memorii Tip: Our tip Visit the Reichstag for fantastic views and a close-up of the famous Norman Foster dome. Avoid the queues by booking into the restaurant – they do a great breakfast. But do make sure you book in advance.

Helsinki

Finland’s lovely capital Helsinki is a maritime city, with the sea on three sides and almost 100 kilometres of shoreline, as well as around 300 islands. Its contemporary architecture and focus on modern design sit surprisingly well alongside its four hundred year history.

Visby

The charming UNESCO-listed town of Visby is the capital of Gotland, the largest island in the Baltic. The photogenic cobbled streets and ruined Gothic churches are a reminder of the island’s fascinating history, invaded by both Germans and Danes and decimated by the Black Death in the 14th century.

Ronne (Bornholm)

The ruggedly handsome island of Bornholm lies way out in the Baltic, closer to Sweden and Poland than the Danish mainland. It’s the sunniest place in Denmark, known for its intriguing rundekirke (round churches), sleepy fishing villages, traditional smokehouses and fantastic foodie scene.

Hamburg

Known locally as ‘the gateway to the world’, the port of Hamburg has a rich maritime history. Of course the city has its seedy side, as characterised by the old red light district around the Reeperbahn, but it’s also a vibrant, progressive city with some excellent museums, galleries and theatres.
