Day By Day

Itinerary

5 May 2028
Nice

Nice enjoys a marvellous setting on one of the most glorious stretches of the Côte d'Azur, the sweeping Bay of Angels, so it's no wonder that tourists have been flocking here since the 19th century. A stroll along the waterfront Promenade des Anglais, flanked by palm trees on one side and the dazzling blue of the Mediterranean on the other, is the quintessential Niçois experience, and one we'll never tire of. Do try and make some time to explore the old town as well though; it's a maze of wonderfully winding streets, some of which may be barely wide enough to squeeze through after that hearty seafood lunch!

Memory Tip: Don't miss Vieux Nice, the old town, is the perfect place to get lost, with beautiful baroque architecture, bustling markets and narrow lanes.

Monte Carlo

Renowned for its casino, its Grand Prix and its oligarch-friendly tax policies, Monte Carlo is glamour and hedonism personified, with a price tag to match. This little principality enjoys a lovely setting, the villas and penthouses tumbling down the hillside towards the sweeping blue expanse of the Mediterranean.

Saint-Florent

The pretty village of Saint-Florent lies on the north coast of Corsica, between the Cap Corse mountains and the wild Désert des Agriates. Although small, Saint-Florent has its own cathedral and an impressive 15th-century citadel, and is close to the famous Patrimonio vineyards and beautiful Saleccia beach.

Florence / Pisa (Livorno)

The faded port town of Livorno serves as a gateway to Tuscany’s star attractions. Wonderful Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, is resplendent with beautiful architecture and unrivalled artistic treasures, while nearby Pisa is of course famous for its precarious Leaning Tower.

Porto Santo Stefano

Porto Santo Stefano sits on the slopes of Monte Argentario, a promontory connected to the Tuscan coast by three slender spits of land. The port was subjected to frequent pirate raids until the Spanish fortified it in the 16th century, and the fortress still looms over the harbour.

10 May 2028
Gaeta

Little known outside of Italy, Gaeta is something of a hidden gem, set on the coast between Rome and Naples. Seven lovely beaches and a friendly atmosphere make this a popular destination for local sun-seekers, and points of interest include an imposing castle and a Roman mauseoleum dating back to the first century BC.

11 May 2028
Sorrento

The lovely town of Sorrento, draped across rugged cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples, has been charming visitors since the days of the Grand Tour. The Renaissance palaces and many craft shops make Sorrento an attractive destination in its own right, and it’s also a jumping off point for Capri, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast.

12 May 2028
Lipari

Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago to the north of Sicily. The main port is Lipari Town, a charming little harbour of pastel-coloured houses, fishing boats and enticing restaurants, overlooked by the imposing 13th century citadel.

10
13 May 2028
Giardini Naxos

The charming village of Giardini Naxos is one of the jewels of Sicily, a popular resort located on a majestic bay facing the Ionian Sea. Restaurants and bars line a long stretch of beach, and the attractive town of Taormina is within easy reach, along with the slopes of brooding Mount Etna.

14 May 2028
Valletta

Malta’s tiny capital, established by the Knights of St John, packs in an awful lot of history considering its diminutive size. The atmospheric old streets, bathed in Mediterranean sunshine, are full of attractive honey-golden buildings, along with an impressive selection of bars and restaurants.
