Voyage overview

What this voyage is

Just 56 fortunate couples enjoy a completely relaxed al fresco holiday experience and a quirky individual style of service that is way beyond the norm.

This has to be one of our favourite travel experiences. We love
the al fresco feel, dining outside for all meals if you wish, and
even spending the night sleeping under the stars on the Balinese
dream beds. The totally laid back style means SeaDream is the
ultimate chill.

Málaga

Málaga has at times had its reputation dragged down by association with the overdevelopment and high rise horrors of the Costa del Sol, which is a great shame, as there is plenty to satisfy the discerning traveller. The labyrinthine historic centre is right next to the cruise port, and has been given something of a makeover in recent years. Nowadays there are plenty of chic restaurants and bars where you can ease into the rhythms of life in southern Spain, before exploring sights including the intriguing, unfinished Gothic cathedral, and a museum devoted to Málaga's most famous son, Pablo Picasso.

Memory Tip: Our tip Málaga closes for siesta so plan your visit to ensure you have scheduled a long relaxing lunch. Plan for an extensive tapas tasting, or great seafood a little way down the coast at El Palo.

Puerto Banús

The marina at Puerto Banús is a prime destination for the glitterati on the Costa del Sol, a place where oligarchs’ private yachts float alongside upmarket restaurants and designer boutiques. If this doesn’t sound like your scene then try heading inland to lovely Ronda, or check out the beaches around Marbella.

Gibraltar

Sovereignty of ‘The Rock’ has been a thorny issue ever since Gibraltar was ceded to Britain in 1713, though on the ground it’s clear where most locals’ sympathies lie. Gibraltar is often described as ‘more British than Britain’, a curious enclave of red postboxes, double decker buses and chip shops.

Tangier

After years of neglect, Tangier is finally being restored to its former glory as a cosmopolitan crossroads between Europe and Africa. The Moroccan government has invested heavily in modern infrastructure, while the spruced up medina shines with a new-found cultural dynamism.

Cádiz

The crumbling, sun-baked seafront city of Cádiz is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the western world, founded by the Phoenicians around 1100 BC. Although the city lacks any obvious landmarks, it’s rich in atmosphere, and plays host to one of Spain’s most colourful carnivals.

Huelva

The port of Huelva lies between the Odiel and Tinto estuaries, in the southwest corner of Andalucía close to the Portuguese border. Although the town has some nice historical buildings, it is quite industrial, so you may prefer a trip out to the wetlands of Doñana National Park, home to flamingos, Spanish imperial eagles and Iberian lynx.

Lisbon

Spread across steep hillsides that overlook the Rio Tejo, Lisbon’s colourful cityscape includes Gothic cathedrals, majestic monasteries and quaint museums. But for many the best times will be had wandering the narrow lanes of Lisbon’s lovely backstreets, with their great local food, wine and music.

Memory Tip: Don't miss Belem Tower, dating from the 1500s, was both a fortress and the explorers’ departure point. On the façade you will find a stone rhinoceros sculpted into the tower – Europe’s first sight of this extraordinary beast!
